The Orange County Playwrights Alliance began on April 1, 1995, when seven former South Coast Repertory playwriting students met in the lobby of an oncologist's office in Anaheim. OCPA has become a key platform for developing and introducing new American plays from a Southern California perspective. Through the years, we have presented staged readings at nearly every important small theatre in Orange County, becoming an integral part of OC's "storefront theatre" scene. We have co-produced shows with companies staging high-quality, contemporary works: The Wayward Artist, STAGEStheatre, Vanguard Theatre Ensemble.
Our members' works are frequently staged and produced - locally, regionally and nationally. Our alumni include two playwrights who have had their work produced at the LORT level, and nearly 100 playwrights have been members of OCPA during its history.
We thank the original seven OCPA members who made it all happen: co-founders Eleanor Brook and Curt Webster, Bob and Colleen Bevacqua, Marti Hood, Dorothy Weston Stauch, and Anna Winslow.
